The Corsair was a Time Lord, described by the Eleventh Doctor as "one of the good ones". The Corsair apparently took on different sexes throughout many incarnations. The Doctor noted that when the Corsair was female, "she was a bad girl."
The Ninth Corsair was the final incarnation of the Renegade Time Lord known as the Corsair. He was often described as being a "strapping big fellow".

The final incarnation of the Corsair was described by Auntie, a composite humanoid servant of House, as "a strapping big bloke." According to The Brilliant Book 2012, a book that contains non-narrative information, the Ouroboros tattoo trademark of the Corsair — a snake eating its own tail, symbolising eternity — moved around the Corsair's body with each regeneration. The largest of these was during the third incarnation in which a multi-coloured variant covered a third of the Corsair's back; the smallest was no bigger than a ten-pence coin on the fifth incarnation's upper thigh.

Amongst their missions for the Time Lords, the Corsair stole the Callisto Pulse from the Callistan Kleptocracy.

Although she denied ever having fought the Daleks, she was spotted in her seventh incarnation on Clarkor Nine when the Dalek scout ship arrived. It is highly likely that she was involved in those Daleks having their suction cups and manipulator arms removed in the night and fused into a shape resembling a Skarosian profanity. The Daleks departed shortly afterward.

* The Corsair was not the only Time Lord to bear a snake tattoo on his arm. Whereas the Corsair tattooed an ouroboros on each of his new bodies, the Doctor's third incarnation came with a tattoo of a snake in the shape of a question-mark on his right arm. It was actor Jon Pertwee's own tattoo from his Royal Navy service during the Second World War. (TV: Spearhead From Space)
* On his blog, The Doctor's Wife scriptwriter Neil Gaiman stated that before he began writing the first draft, he wanted to make sure the idea of the Corsair was okay with series show runner Steven Moffat before he became fixed in the story, so he sent him an email with a piece of dialogue between the Doctor and Amy Pond in which the Doctor discussed the Corsair. In this draft, the Doctor explained that the Corsair did not have a name and used to travel, exploring the limits of time and space. The Doctor said that when he was twelve he had asked the Corsair if he could travel with him and act as his "assistant", but the Corsair had just laughed.
* Steven Moffat replied that he wanted the Corsair to be less like the Doctor because the Doctor "does what he does for reasons too vast and terrible to relate".
*According to Neil Gaiman, Russell T Davies liked the idea that the Shopkeeper from Sarah Jane Adventures episode Lost in Time was actually the time lord known as The Corsair although no in-scene references have been made.

*It is possible that the Corsair did not change genders at all and is just a Hermaphrodite.
*The Corsair is the first Time Lord to be mentioned to change genders in the Doctor Who Franchise.
*It is unknown if the Corsair changed gender through Regeneration or by other means.
*It is possible the Doctor was lying when he said the Corsair had changed genders.

The Ninth Corsair was the final incarnation of the Renegade Time Lord known as the Corsair. He was often described as being a "strapping big fellow".

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

The final incarnation of the Corsair visited the Supreme Leader to collect the feather left behind by his Parrot companion. He also collected a reward for supplying information on the mysterious woman and bird whom had escaped the Supreme Leader (in actuality one of his own past incarnations). He disappeared, and was never heard from again. (PROSE: One Virtue, and a Thousand Crimes)

The Corsair drew their name from frequently going on unofficial missions for the Time Lords, with their status as a Renegade meaning that the Time Lords could claim they had no responsibility for the Corsair's actions. One such mission saw the Ninth Corsair taking part in the Fourth Universal Survey Expedition, an effort on the part of the Time Lords to keep tabs on all of reality. (PROSE: Eleven Things You Probably Didn't Know About the Corsair) Like many Time Lords before him, the Corsair was lured by distress calls seemingly coming from other Time Lords, and left his home universe through a rift in the Vortex and into a bubble universe.

The Eleventh Doctor sees Auntie has the Corsair's arm. (TV: The Doctor's Wife)

There, the Corsair went the way of House's numerous other Time Lord victims who had fallen into House's bubble universe and was marooned when his TARDIS was drained of energy by the parasitic entity known as "House". The Corsair had only just enough time to get a message together before he was finally killed. The two "patchwork-people" created by House, "Auntie" and "Uncle", received the Corsair's left arm and "the spine and the kidneys", respectively.

The Eleventh Doctor discovered the Corsair's fate after being contacted by a hypercube with their peculiar Ouroboros symbol and following its psychically encoded distress message to House. He eventually discovered the Corsair's remains in Auntie and Uncle; this and the stockpile of hypercubes House used as bait cemented his fury in confronting and defeating House with Idris. (TV: The Doctor's Wife)

Legacy[[edit] | [edit source]]

During one adventure, while pushing a heavy crate, the Eleventh Doctor said that if he kept up this habit, he would develop big arms like the Corsair. (GAME: The Eternity Clock)

Appearance[[edit] | [edit source]]

In their seventh incarnation, the Corsair stated that she wanted one of her next incarnations to have "a body with muscles [...] with one of those faces people just trust". Indeed, when the Supreme Leader later encountered the final Corsair, he immediately trusted him upon seeing his face. The Corsair was also described as a "strapping big fellow" who also had a tattoo of "a snake-swallowing-its-tail" on his inner left wrist. (PROSE: One Virtue, and a Thousand Crimes) Auntie also thought that the Corsair was a "strapping big bloke", and had the Corsair's left arm with the Ouroboros tattoo grafted onto her body comprised of limbs and organs taken from many individuals. (TV: The Doctor's Wife)
