UNIT's Golden Period was the era of UNIT's history that spanned the 1960s, the 1970s, and according to some, the 1980s; (PROSE: UNIT History: Fighting the unknown, TV: The Lost Boy) therefore, this was the period in which the Second, (TV: The Invasion, et al.) Third (TV: Spearhead from Space, Doctor Who and the Silurians, et al.) and Fourth Doctors worked with and/or for UNIT. (TV: Robot, Terror of the Zygons, Pyramids of Mars, et al.) However, this period was also very thinly documented publicly, (PROSE: The Secret Lives of Monsters) and it seemed to end after the Doctor left regular service with UNIT, (TV: Pyramids of Mars) as well as the Brigadier's retirement, (TV: The Five Doctors, Mawdryn Undead, PROSE: The Five Doctors, et al.) and after mid-1980s, the next twenty years became relatively peaceful. (PROSE: UNIT History: Fighting the unknown)
However, the events spanning this period often were subject to vastly irreconcilable dating; many accounts stated that UNIT's original operations took place in the late 1970s and 1980s, (TV: The Invasion, et a.) while others say the

First Operations[[edit] | [edit source]]
UNIT's first full operation (PROSE: UNIT) was an intensive investigation of International Electromatics, which turned violent. UNIT agents were killed and UNIT launched a helicopter raid to liberate prisoners at an Electromatics' facility. With the help, again, of the Second Doctor, UNIT discovered the company was a front for a Cybermen invasion, and was able to defend against it. Initially they had only intervened thinking Tobias Vaughn was involved in strange criminal activity, with the Brigadier agreeing with Captain Turner that Geneva would think he was mad without proof of the Cybermen's existence.
