Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]
to be added
Cast[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The Doctor - David Tennant
- The Doctor - Peter Davison
- Tina Drake - Shelley Conn
- Joseph Delon - Mark Gatiss
- Marcel Delon / Charles VI - Glen McCready
- The Cybermen - Nicholas Briggs
Worldbuilding[[edit] | [edit source]]
- The Tenth Doctor sees Josephine Baker in the hotel lobby.
- The Tenth Doctor accidentally refers to Tina Drake as Tina Turner.
- To point out that their outfits would be conspicuous in the past, the Tenth Doctor says his past incarnation and himself look like Paul Collingwood and Jarvis Cocker.
- The Doctors note that the Fourth Doctor once recklessly parked the TARDIS in the Louvre.
- After the paradox is resolved, the Doctors return to the TARDIS a bit later, on Victory Day in 1945.
Notes[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Producer David Richardson recalled that the idea for Out of Time 2 - the teaming up of the Tenth and Fifth Doctors - was discussed even before Out of Time 1. It was inspired by Time Crash and the familial relationship between David Tennant and Peter Davison. The idea was returned to in 2020 when both actors were available during the Coronavirus lockdown, by which point Out of Time 1 had already been recorded. (BFX: The Gates of Hell)
- David Llewellyn re-watched Time Crash to get an idea of the relationship between the two Doctors. (VOR 147) Time Crash was also used as a point of reference for Out of Time 1, though exclusively for the Tenth Doctor. (VOR 137)
- Because the multi-Doctor element took precedent, the Cybermen were a later addition to the story. The involvement of the Daleks in Out of Time 1 aided the decision to pit two Doctors against another popular recurring foe. (BFX: The Gates of Hell)
- Numerous discussions were had about which model of Cyberman would be used in the story. Ultimately, it was decided to use the early CyberFaction from The Invasion. (BFX: The Gates of Hell) Similar discussions had been held about the Daleks in Out of Time 1, where it was decided to use both new and old. (VOR 137)
- Llewellyn's script was inspired by a trip he made to the Paris Catacombs in 2018. The entrance to the Catacombs was at a place called the Gates of Hell. (VOR 147)
- This story was recorded remotely on 30 June 2020.
- The Tenth Doctor likens his appearance to Jarvis Cocker. In a sketch broadcast as part of the Dead Ringers 2005 Christmas special, the Ninth Doctor dismissed the Tenth Doctor as "Jarvis Cocker in space".
Continuity[[edit] | [edit source]]
- Agent Drake asks if the Doctor has a robot dog, to which he replies that he doesn't anymore. (TV: Warriors' Gate)
- The Fifth Doctor remembers meeting a minotaur the last time he was in the Parisian catacombs. (COMIC: The Forgotten)
- The Fifth Doctor remarks how the Cyber-Leader looks different to the other Cybermen. (AUDIO: Return of the Cybermen) Agent Drake has seen Cybermen but is unfamiliar with these models; the Doctor tells her they are an earlier generation. (TV: The Invasion, AUDIO: The Early Cybermen)
- The two Doctors recall encountering each other before. (TV: Time Crash)
- The Tenth Doctor remembers having ice cream with Romana in Paris, though the Fifth corrects him on the exact location of this. (TV: City of Death)
- Joseph Delon proclaims the rule of the Cyber-Empire as "the Age of Steel". (TV: The Age of Steel)
