A bag was a non-rigid container for items that an individual could carry.
Types of bag[[edit] | [edit source]]
Clyde Langer carried a bag containing books, Tangfastics, and his lunch. (TV: Revenge of the Slitheen)
Backpack[[edit] | [edit source]]
A backpack, also known as a rucksack was another kind of bag that was worn over the shoulders, which had two straps to hold the bag onto an individual's back. (PROSE: The Wrong Hands, TV: Planet of the Dead [+]Loading...["Planet of the Dead (TV story)"])
Shopping bag[[edit] | [edit source]]
There were many specific types of bags used for different situations or locations. Supermarkets often gave out bags for customers to carry their shopping in. (TV: Love & Monsters)
Handbag[[edit] | [edit source]]
As well as having practical uses, some bags such as handbags could be worn as accessories to an outfit. (TV: Partners in Crime)
Work-specific[[edit] | [edit source]]
Certain bags were also linked to specific trades: physicians often carried stiff leather bags called Gladstone bags, (TV: Doctor Who) and workmen would often keep their tools in a functional tool bag. (TV: Welcome to the TARDIS...) Torchwood Three sometimes used body bags to transport and dispose of corpses. (PROSE: Mrs Acres)
In 2021, Dan Lewis loaded a tool bag into his Ford Transit whilst his friend read Dan's horoscope. (TV: Welcome to the TARDIS...)
Other references[[edit] | [edit source]]
At least to Jenny Everywhere, the Pinguis Bibendum and Puff Tremayne resembled "great big sugar-bag-sized, fluffy marshmallows". (PROSE: A World of Pure Unimagination [+]Loading...["A World of Pure Unimagination (short story)"])
