A narrator once told the story of "Dr. Who", Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright, Vicki Pallister and Steven Taylor's escape from Mechanus. He was aware that the story sounded fantastical but was certain of its reality.

The TARDIS, carrying the Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Vicki, had arrived on Mechanus, having been chased by the Pursuer-Daleks' own time machine. The travellers were captured by the Mechons and brought to their city, where they met Steven Taylor, himself a captive of the Mechons. All five escaped the city as the Daleks arrived and engaged the Mechons. With the Dalek time machine vacant, Ian and Barbara used it to return home to Earth whilst Steven joined the Doctor and Vicki in the TARDIS. Concluding his telling of the event, the narrator wished the Doctor continued good luck, aware that there were more Daleks on Skaro for him to contend with.
