Tony Benn was a British Labour Party politician.
In the late 1960s, he was the Minister of Technology in Harold Wilson's cabinet and was responsible for the Vault. Lethbridge-Stewart commented that Benn might be the only one who knew precisely where the Vault was. (PROSE: Beast of Fang Rock)
He served as the Home Secretary in the cabinet of Prime Minister Shirley Williams in 1976. (PROSE: No Future)
Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]
Tony Benn was the real-life Minister of Technology under Harold Wilson. He was a Cabinet minister in the 1970s but not Home Secretary; the Williams government is a fictional creation by Paul Cornell.
Benn hosted the documentary One Foot in the Past concerning the Post Office Tower which was included on the DVD release of The War Machines.
