K9 was a short story released on the special features section of the webpage for the 2003 animation of Shada. The story took the form of an interview, with the interviewer and interviewee both being K9 Mark II. There were other separate interviews "conducted" by K9 in the special features, but those made no attempt to be a part of the DWU.

The story is the third piece of offical Doctor Who prose fiction on the internet, succeeding Enjoy the Game and Father Time: "Set Visit". The next online-only short story to be released by the BBC was The Feast of the Stone.

Synopsis[[edit] | [edit source]]

K9 Mark II interviews himself.

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

K9 Mark II takes a bit of time out of his schedule to interview himself. He asks himself what he has been up to in these past few years, and he responds that his biography has begun, he went on tour to Mexico with So Solid Crew, as well as his guest appearances several television series and movies. K9 then asks himself if Barbara Woodhouse ever tamed him, and he tells himself that she never did, not that she needed to. K9 then asks himself if he misses being in the TARDIS, and he responds yes, as he misses the unpredictability, the regular feeding times, as well as the "stimulating conversation" with someone to easily beat at chess. Finally, he askes himself where K9 the actor resides nowadays, and K9 responds to himself that the actor lives in the darkest parts of the Sussex Downs with his friend Sherlock Holmes.
