Thirty Love was the twelfth and final story in the Bernice Summerfield anthology Missing Adventures. It was written by Eddie Robson.

Summary[[edit]]

Bernice Summerfield is adamant to avoid facing her 30th birthday, but her students and Traveller friends know this cannot pass and "kidnap" her from her dig on the planet Heaven to ensure she has the best day of her life. Benny is taken to a makeshift tennis court mowed in a field by the Travellers, where the group tries to get the knack of the sport from scratch. This gives dejected Benny the happy experience she needed, and helps her attain possible insights on her future.

Notes[[edit]]

  • An illustration depicting this story as it takes place on the tennis court is shown on the cover of the Missing Adventures anthology.
  • This story's title refers to the lingo of scoring in tennis. "Love" is considered a score of zero against an opponent who has acquired a lead over them while they have yet to score; thus, the title translates to 30-0.
  • This story is the last of the Missing Adventures anthology.
  • It's a possiblity that the Clive in this story is Clive Aubrey.
