====[[Theory:Doctor Who television discontinuity and plot holes]]====
I wanted to get this page up and ready by the time ''[[The Eleventh Hour]]'' was broadcast. It's not pretty (probably it should eventually go to a tabular format one of these days), but every story (and episode, if you wanna be picky about the [[BBC Wales]] era) now has an appropriate redlink just waiting for information to be dumped onto it from the mainspace article page. Though uglier, I decided to make the backslash visible in the links so as to visually confirm for people that they'd be creating an article at the right place. Thanks very much. It probably take longer than 72 hours though (3 days). But i will try and do as much as possible until then. (maybe tomorrow will see description and geog in.) I've clarified my position somewhat. Do so for all articles, however check through the article to see if the info can be placed in it (the key life events may just be a repeat of the info already there, but it's good to check), especially for pages like the Tenth Doctor article the key life events might be a little more succinct than what's there (that's not to say delete all the other stuff on the Tenth Doctor article, more a merging and thinning out). Thanks. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] 13:53, June 12, 2010 (UTC)

==Moved back to [[Doctor Who (1996)]]]==
I undid your move to [[Doctor Who (TV movie)]] per discussion at [[Talk:Doctor Who (1996)#Move]]. This question has already been asked and, by consensus, answered. The ''official'' name of the thing for copyright purposes is simply ''Doctor Who''. Thus, it is disambiguated by the year of release for the page title. Of course tons of other redirects are allowed, to provide many ways of linking to the article. ::Hey. Just two questions; which articles/major edits are you proud of and which articles/major edits showcase your creative skills? You can leave the response on my talk page (rather than the big user rights page). The questions are just something for me to look through (as your contributions are all around good and you know your edit history better than me.) Thanks. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] 15:33, June 19, 2010 (UTC)

:::Hey, a further question. Can you show me a significant in-universe contribution that showcases your creative skills at writing significant body text to an article.

:::I've just been looking through your most recent 2000 or so of your contributions and I can't really find a significantly large amount of text to judge your flow of writing.
:::You are a very good ''editor'' and good at applying the manual of style and associated policies, but I'd really like to see and be able to read a 'meaty edit' of a lot of text, preferably an in-universe article (as in universe articles allow for a greater creative scope than real world articles which are usually more tightly bound to fact and sources).

:::Just a small (somewhat random) note on a recent-ish edit [[Panda]], in that case an Oou and Update tag should probably have been added rather than just adding to the non-in-universe info. Thanks. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] 13:36, June 21, 2010 (UTC)

::::Looking at those edits I've got a few more pointers (as these are the things that I noticed immediatley when reading), the Doctor's name is written as I just did '''not''' like this "Unknown to anyone, [[Tenth Doctor | The Doctor]] had" the 'the' should only be capitalised at the start of a sentence. (This is in the [[Tardis:Manual of Style#Capital letters]])
::::A few more elements of concern for me. Your propensity to want to jump straight forward and force things to conform, the guide for individuals, as I said it is a guide not a strict adherence. Many of the in-universe articles dictate how they're written based on the information that is available. So guides are better than strict formats that ''must'' be stuck to because of this.
::::The out of universe articles can have a more rigid structure because you're generally presented with the same types of information for each given category of information.
::::I'm noting all this once more because you are a good editor and good at applying the Manual of style / formats / forum decisions, but…
::::On all three examples you showed me your in-universe edits had examples of several errors; the Alonso Frame edit example I found somewhat hard to read. For example:
::::<blockquote>"Whenthe He also helped the [[Tenth Doctor]] called him, Alonzo prevent the spaceship from crashing into the [[Earth]], by putting all power to the engines and shields, which kept it in space. He was then trapped in the bridge when the [[Heavenly Host]] turned against him, and tried to kill him, he put a deadlock seal on the door so he could not get out and no one could get in."</blockquote>

::::From the Lucy Saxon example:
::::With "The End of the Master's Rein" subheading.
::::<blockquote>Not much is knowning what happened during The Year That Never Was, apart from the fact the Lucy grew tried of the Master and he had been pysically abusing her. When The Master captured [[Martha Jones]], the countdown timer was counting down to the rise of 'New Galifrey' and the Toclafane invasion of the Galaxay. Unknown to anyone, [[Tenth Doctor | The Doctor]] had 'merged' with the countdown so that he'd be resorted to his normal self so he could beat The Master. When the countdown reached zero, the world started to chant 'doctor', and soon Lucy joined in as well, and when the Master tried to escape, relising his plain had failed, [[Francine Jones]] tried to shoot him, but when The Doctor and [[Jack Harkness]] stopped her, Lucy herself took the gun and shot the Master dead. Soon after, Lucy was arrested and sent to prison.</blockquote>
::::This one I'm someone confused about because with the spelling of 'The Master'/''the Master', it's correct in the subheading and at least once in text body.''
::::Pete Tyler (Pete's World):
::::<blockquote>"Trapped in Pete's world, Pete could on watch as Rose cried.". We (as editors) call it Pete's World, he'd call it 'his universe' or something along those lines. I assume "on" was meant to be "only".</blockquote>

::::This isn't criticism for criticism's sake though. I would like to grant your request, but I need further convincing of your skills, you say in your request your grammar and spelling skills are usually very good, but (aside from above) there are a few in your request itself. I just need more convincing of your editing skills that aren't to do with ''removing'' text (such as removing the quotes, promo images or key life events).
::::If you wish to, rather than admin rights I am willing to assign you rollback rights, these are the same rights that Solar Dragon has (which is the ability to as the name suggests rollback edits quickly and easily), through your strong ''edit'' history I'm fine with granting rollback rights to you without any further questions and analysis. Thanks, feel free to quiz me on anything further. --[[User:Tangerineduel|Tangerineduel]] 14:26, June 22, 2010 (UTC)

== Delete Template ==

I see you point on the articules i made, but i only made them because i thought that they could have been enough info to put into a diffrent articule all together.
I'm not sure if you know yet, but we've recently added a new feature to the delete template. Instead of it taking more time to put why the article should be deleted on the talk page, you can now include it in the delete template itself, just put another | after the delete, followed by the reason, eg if it was vandalism, you would put <nowiki>{{delete|the article is vandalism}}</nowiki>, and that puts those words onto the tag as well. --[[User:The Thirteenth Doctor|The Thirteenth Doctor]] 19:51, June 18, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your recent edits! I'm Jimbo, your robot wiki representative! We hope you'll keep on editing with us. This is actually a great time to have joined, because we're now fully independent, and working on a host of new features!

We've got a couple of important quirks for a fan written wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.

British English, please

We generally use British English 'round these parts, so if you use another form of English, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.

Spoilers aren't cool

We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.

Other useful stuff

Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:

Discontinuity and Production Errors[[edit source]]

Discontinuity[[edit source]]

It's a direction we could go, but I think much like the current discontinuity section it would be hard to decide what is a 'major' discontinuity and to stop the page from becoming a huge article of arguments. Looking at the page as it is we'd likely either need to make several pages for each Doctor or have that 'Discontinuity in Doctor Who' page with several sub-pages spun off it. Also as the title stands it could refer to all of Doctor Who (TV, book, audios, comics etc), while in theory this isn't a bad thing (as I'm sure editors could find a bit of discontinuity for every single story) it presents an issue of too much information which may turn into just one large discussion.

Having it all in one place would also probably make editing harder, because people could just go through the page responding to every single thing in one edit (rather than the 500 or so they'd need to do otherwise).

On a side note, the semi-protect tag is just that, it's a tag and doesn't do anything, it's to alert people that a page has been semi-protected, but an admin actually needs to protect the page first. --Tangerineduel 15:43, March 21, 2010 (UTC)

User Changing Stuff[[edit source]]

I've seen it. I will go through and hit 'rollback' on his edits, but I do want to give the user a chance to continue the discussion on the forum page as after this (and a warning) my only options will be to block the user (and I'd rather go the diplomatic route first). Thanks for leaving me a message. --Tangerineduel 16:03, March 26, 2010 (UTC)

That would have the effect of just moving the discussions (not a huge problem on the classic series pages) but on the new series pages it'd likely have the result of encouraging people to go to town with the debating. --Tangerineduel 16:16, March 26, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, he did that to one of my plots, saying it was "copied from wikipedia" in his summary. The problem is that I wrote it for use at both places. I have no problem with the substitution of a more detailed summary, since this wiki should be more detailed in plot descriptions (to a degree) than wikipedia, but the summary was irksome. Theory:Doctor Who television discontinuity and plot holes[[edit source]]

I wanted to get this page up and ready by the time The Eleventh Hour was broadcast. It's not pretty (probably it should eventually go to a tabular format one of these days), but every story (and episode, if you wanna be picky about the BBC Wales era) now has an appropriate redlink just waiting for information to be dumped onto it from the mainspace article page. Though uglier, I decided to make the backslash visible in the links so as to visually confirm for people that they'd be creating an article at the right place. CzechOut | 00:55, April 3, 2010 (UTC)

Discontinuity Pages Formatting[[edit source]]

Is there a page with the rules on how to format the discontinuity pages? The Thirteenth Doctor 21:03, May 31, 2010 (UTC)

Production Error Stuff[[edit source]]

Thanks for your help in switching over to production error paradigm, but please see Talk:Lost Souls#Production error removal. CzechOut | 21:07, March 29, 2010 (UTC)

Is There Something I'm Missing?[[edit source]]

Are "Production Errors" not the same thing as "Discontinuity, Plot Holes, Errors", 'cos I thought they were? I must admit I agree with removing the rebuttals. Every single plot hole was given a rebuttal, a lot of which were a little far-fetched... The b-Unit's167th Drophyd 12:19, April 5, 2010 (UTC)

Well that's not what "Tangerineduel" said, 'cos according to him it's been simplified to Production Errors. Anyway, it's good that they've been removed... The b-Unit's167th Drophyd 13:00, April 5, 2010 (UTC)

Actors Pages[[edit source]]

Thank you very much for your efforts to create pages for several Doctor Who guest actors. There are a few things that the three or so pages you've most recently created lack that would help them be even more useful. I know you've already made about 3000 edits, and therefore you're one of our more senior editors, but I nevertheless encourage you to read (or, possibly, re-read) our Manual of style at some point in the near future. It'll give you some pointers about how to format articles. However, here are some key things that you might want to keep in mind for the future.

  • All actor pages should be flagged as an "article about the real world" as near the top of the page as possible, the name of the person must be bolded, and you should link as many words as can be linked to articles on this wiki. So, the article David Ajala should begin:
{{real world}}'''David Ajala''' played [[Peter]] . . .
  • All pages, related to actors or not, should be put into a category when the article is first created. This can be accomplished several ways, but the easiest is just to click "Add category" and start typing. The software will match your text as you type it, so you don't even have to type out the whole category. The category for Doctor Who guest actors is exactly that: Doctor Who guest actors. By the time you've typed "Doctor Who g", the software will already be presenting you with that category, so click on its suggestion, press enter, and you're done. Again, I'm probably telling you something you already know, but as none of your recently-created articles are categorized, I just wanted to be sure you knew how to do it.
  • All articles about people should ideally be sorted in categories by the last name of the person. The recommended way of making this happen is to use a thing called "DEFAULTSORT". (DEFAULTSORT is preferred over adding a manual sort key to each category, because pages sometimes later get put into automatically-applied categories. Without a DEFAULTSORT, auto-cats will not properly alphabetize people's names.) Add the following to the bottom of your articles, and the system will tidy away the article without you having to think about it:
{{DEFAULTSORT:Ajala, David}}
  • Actors pages should have an external link to the relevant IMdb page, which can be accomplished easily through the use of one of two templates.
{{imdb|name/nm2916966/|David Ajala}}

or

{{imdb name|id=2916966|name=David Ajala}}
  • As regards this specific article, you might want to note that Peter is a huge disambig page, and not a specific link to the character in question. Generally first-name-only links are discouraged, because it's very likely there will be other articles that could potentially have that name. Very common English language first names, like Peter and Mandy, should almost never be used to title an article, because there will be other people, both in-universe and out-, who will share the same first name.

Again, I know you're one of our more experienced editors, so I hope you don't take offense at these suggestions. It just worried me to see three articles with the same basic editing errors. CzechOut | 15:03, April 9, 2010 (UTC)

Hey, the vandalism template still has some bugs (in that it puts the code onto the page rather than the template), it's still usable, but I'd prefer it not rolled out until it's completely fixed. Thanks. --Tangerineduel 11:24, May 22, 2010 (UTC)
The vandalism template has been tweaked slightly, but is now working more in line with the other template check it out Template:Vandalism (as the usage and how it looks has changed slightly). Thanks. --Tangerineduel 13:56, May 22, 2010 (UTC)

Format for Individuals[[edit source]]

Hey, I moved this to Tardis:Format for Individuals (a more correct title for what it is) but it seems you just created it again (I didn't create a redirect as nothing linked to it). Thanks. --Tangerineduel 16:47, June 3, 2010 (UTC)

Hey. I've had a look, and posted a longer response on the talk page for the article.
It's a good effort, though has some large issues. Trying to get a format down for an in-universe article is trickier than an out of universe articles. The story articles all follow pretty much the same layout so it's easy to lay down a standard of how those areas should be filled in.
In-universe articles are trickier because sometimes you're going to have lots of information and sometimes you're going to be struggling to reach a paragraph and may not even need to be organised under a 'biography' section. --Tangerineduel 11:54, June 4, 2010 (UTC)
Hey, I've re-written the page significantly, I also removed the delete and in use tags as it's changed significantly from when they were added. --Tangerineduel 17:09, June 4, 2010 (UTC)
No. Please don't take the page as a guide to go and change articles, it's a guide to how to write the articles, but it's not meant to constrain articles nor is it meant to retroactively apply to articles either, I used a wide range of articles as examples all with their own unique quirks. Unlike the other story articles this one is far more fluid. I'm considering moving the article to 'Guide to writing individuals articles' (or something along those lines (please don't move it, I'm currently working out ideas). Now that I've written this one I think I might be able to write similar guide articles for other in-universe topics that may be as sub'pages of a Tardis:Guides to writing sort of thing. So as we don't get them confused with formats. --Tangerineduel 17:17, June 4, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for that. I didn't know how to convert it all into Human understanding so i just left it to be added. For future reference how did you change it like that or were you already translating it when i was editing? The Human Doctor 20:34, June 5, 2010 (UTC)

Replay[[edit source]]

I see you point on the articules i made, but i only made them because i thought that they could have been enough info to put into a diffrent articule all together. Jfraser25 02:11, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Inuse[[edit source]]

Thanks very much. It probably take longer than 72 hours though (3 days). But i will try and do as much as possible until then. (maybe tomorrow will see description and geog in.) I need to watch the four, carefully again and make notes this time to get it accurate the first time of asking. Thanks, very useful tool. The Human Doctor 20:04, June 6, 2010 (UTC)

Key life events[[edit source]]

I've clarified my position somewhat. Thanks. --Tangerineduel 13:53, June 12, 2010 (UTC)

Hi, im a bit curious about this can you please give me info on this paticular subject Thanks. The mysterious 13:55, June 12, 2010 (UTC)

Moved back to Doctor Who (1996)][[edit source]]

I undid your move to Doctor Who (TV movie) per discussion at Talk:Doctor Who (1996)#Move. This question has already been asked and, by consensus, answered. The official name of the thing for copyright purposes is simply Doctor Who. Thus, it is disambiguated by the year of release for the page title. Of course tons of other redirects are allowed, to provide many ways of linking to the article. CzechOut | 20:42, June 14, 2010 (UTC)

Request for adminship[[edit source]]

Hey, to start the process have a look through and consider the Tardis:Questions and guide to requests for adminship and some of the questions there in. Thanks. --Tangerineduel 14:26, June 18, 2010 (UTC)

  • No problem, you deserve it. If I ever want to be an admin though it'll be in several years time... :) The Thirteenth Doctor 18:57, June 18, 2010 (UTC)
Hey. Just two questions; which articles/major edits are you proud of and which articles/major edits showcase your creative skills? You can leave the response on my talk page (rather than the big user rights page). The questions are just something for me to look through (as your contributions are all around good and you know your edit history better than me.) Thanks. --Tangerineduel 15:33, June 19, 2010 (UTC)
Hey, a further question. Can you show me a significant in-universe contribution that showcases your creative skills at writing significant body text to an article.
I've just been looking through your most recent 2000 or so of your contributions and I can't really find a significantly large amount of text to judge your flow of writing.
You are a very good editor and good at applying the manual of style and associated policies, but I'd really like to see and be able to read a 'meaty edit' of a lot of text, preferably an in-universe article (as in universe articles allow for a greater creative scope than real world articles which are usually more tightly bound to fact and sources).
Just a small (somewhat random) note on a recent-ish edit Panda, in that case an Oou and Update tag should probably have been added rather than just adding to the non-in-universe info. Thanks. --Tangerineduel 13:36, June 21, 2010 (UTC)
Looking at those edits I've got a few more pointers (as these are the things that I noticed immediatley when reading), the Doctor's name is written as I just did not like this "Unknown to anyone, The Doctor had" the 'the' should only be capitalised at the start of a sentence. (This is in the Tardis:Manual of Style#Capital letters)
A few more elements of concern for me. Your propensity to want to jump straight forward and force things to conform, the guide for individuals, as I said it is a guide not a strict adherence. Many of the in-universe articles dictate how they're written based on the information that is available. So guides are better than strict formats that must be stuck to because of this.
The out of universe articles can have a more rigid structure because you're generally presented with the same types of information for each given category of information.
I'm noting all this once more because you are a good editor and good at applying the Manual of style / formats / forum decisions, but…
On all three examples you showed me your in-universe edits had examples of several errors; the Alonso Frame edit example I found somewhat hard to read. For example:

"Whenthe He also helped the Tenth Doctor called him, Alonzo prevent the spaceship from crashing into the Earth, by putting all power to the engines and shields, which kept it in space. He was then trapped in the bridge when the Heavenly Host turned against him, and tried to kill him, he put a deadlock seal on the door so he could not get out and no one could get in."

From the Lucy Saxon example:
With "The End of the Master's Rein" subheading.

Not much is knowning what happened during The Year That Never Was, apart from the fact the Lucy grew tried of the Master and he had been pysically abusing her. When The Master captured Martha Jones, the countdown timer was counting down to the rise of 'New Galifrey' and the Toclafane invasion of the Galaxay. Unknown to anyone, The Doctor had 'merged' with the countdown so that he'd be resorted to his normal self so he could beat The Master. When the countdown reached zero, the world started to chant 'doctor', and soon Lucy joined in as well, and when the Master tried to escape, relising his plain had failed, Francine Jones tried to shoot him, but when The Doctor and Jack Harkness stopped her, Lucy herself took the gun and shot the Master dead. Soon after, Lucy was arrested and sent to prison.

This one I'm someone confused about because with the spelling of 'The Master'/the Master', it's correct in the subheading and at least once in text body.
Pete Tyler (Pete's World):

"Trapped in Pete's world, Pete could on watch as Rose cried.". We (as editors) call it Pete's World, he'd call it 'his universe' or something along those lines. I assume "on" was meant to be "only".

This isn't criticism for criticism's sake though. I would like to grant your request, but I need further convincing of your skills, you say in your request your grammar and spelling skills are usually very good, but (aside from above) there are a few in your request itself. I just need more convincing of your editing skills that aren't to do with removing text (such as removing the quotes, promo images or key life events).
If you wish to, rather than admin rights I am willing to assign you rollback rights, these are the same rights that Solar Dragon has (which is the ability to as the name suggests rollback edits quickly and easily), through your strong edit history I'm fine with granting rollback rights to you without any further questions and analysis. Thanks, feel free to quiz me on anything further. --Tangerineduel 14:26, June 22, 2010 (UTC)

Delete Template[[edit source]]

I'm not sure if you know yet, but we've recently added a new feature to the delete template. Instead of it taking more time to put why the article should be deleted on the talk page, you can now include it in the delete template itself, just put another | after the delete, followed by the reason, eg if it was vandalism, you would put {{delete|the article is vandalism}}, and that puts those words onto the tag as well. --The Thirteenth Doctor 19:51, June 18, 2010 (UTC)

Request on picture uploads[[edit source]]

Hey, thanks for uploading File:61lCIfV0rAL. SS500 .jpg. It's a nice pic of the Legend of the Cybermen cover. However, the title is really random. In future, please choose simple names, like File:LegendOfTheCybermen.jpg so that it can easily be found from the search field. Thanks :) CzechOut | 08:29, June 19, 2010 (UTC)

Archived talk[[edit source]]

Can I move and correct the namespace of this article for you? As it should be a sub-page of your talk page rather than an article (as in its current state I would usually revert and delete as in its current form it will turn up in all searches). --Tangerineduel 15:36, June 22, 2010 (UTC)

Assistance with a discussion on forum[[edit source]]

Hi, I'd value your input/discussion on this topic in the forums Forum:Italics or Quotation marks?, I'm not comfortable making a ruling solely based on a running conversation between myself and CzechOut and would value other editors' points of view. Thanks. --Tangerineduel 06:15, June 24, 2010 (UTC)

Some unregistored user called "LIAM" posted a message on my talk page and incorrectly spellt your user name. He mentioned something about delete? Anything to do with you? lol HellKaiserryo12 (TalkContribs) 19:28, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

Quick Question[[edit source]]

Hi. You recently removed my addition of Death count and list of the fallen on Rose (TV story). I'm just curious to know why that was.Dgym 17:24, July 5, 2010 (UTC)

Christmas cheer[[edit source]]

Happy holidays!

As this fiftieth anniversary year comes to a close, we here at Tardis just want to thank you for being a part of our community — even if you haven't edited here in a while. If you have edited with us this year, then thanks for all your hard work.

This year has seen an impressive amount of growth. We've added about 11,000 pages this year, which is frankly incredible for a wiki this big. November was predictably one of the busiest months we've ever had: over 500 unique editors pitched in. It was the highest number of editors in wiki history for a year in which only one programme in the DWU was active. And our viewing stats have been through the roof. We've averaged well over 2 million page views each week for the last two months, with some weeks seeing over 4 million views!

We've received an unprecedented level of support from Wikia Staff, resulting in all sorts of new goodies and productive new relationships. And we've recently decided to lift almost every block we've ever made so as to allow most everyone a second chance to be part of our community.

2014 promises to build on this year's foundations, especially since we've got a full, unbroken series coming up — something that hasn't happened since 2011. We hope you'll stick with us — or return to the Tardis — so that you can be a part of the fun!
