Section Leader Elizabeth Shaw was a security officer under the command of Brigade Leader Lethbridge-Stewart at the Eastchester Scientific Labour Camp on a parallel Earth, carrying out Eric Stahlmann's project.

Biography[[edit] | [edit source]]

Like her counterpart, Elizabeth Shaw read physics at university (TV: Inferno [+]Loading...["Inferno (TV story)"]) and earnt a doctorate. (PROSE: Inferno [+]Loading...["Inferno (novelisation)"]) Unlike her counterpart, instead of pursuing a purely academic career she chose to join the RSF, (TV: Inferno [+]Loading...["Inferno (TV story)"]) the armed branch of ExSec dedicated to countering unconventional and scientific threats. (PROSE: The Schizoid Earth [+]Loading...["The Schizoid Earth (novel)"])

Section Leader Shaw captured the Third Doctor, who had just arrived from the Earth of his own universe and had mistaken her for his friend and colleague. Despite her absolute loyalty to her country's totalitarian government, she tried to save the Doctor from execution, even though she initially didn't believe his story of interdimensional travel and thought that he was a demonstrator from an outlawed liberal political group.

She assisted the Doctor in returning to his world by shooting the Brigade-Leader when he threatened to kill the Doctor unless he rescued himself, Shaw and Dr Petra Williams, something the Doctor was unwilling to do since he believed that it would cause a dimensional paradox which would shatter the entire space-time continuum. She was last seen by the Doctor near to Williams and Greg Sutton as a wall of lava flowed toward the technical storage hut. (TV: Inferno [+]Loading...["Inferno (TV story)"])

Appearance[[edit] | [edit source]]

Elizabeth had black hair but was otherwise identical to her counterpart from the Doctor's universe. Her uniform was brown and included a tailored skirt and blouse with a leather belt. On this belt was holstered her revolver. (PROSE: Inferno [+]Loading...["Inferno (novelisation)"])

Behind the scenes[[edit] | [edit source]]

  • Section Leader is a literal translation of the Nazi Schutzstaffel rank Rottenführer. In the real world, this was the equivalent of a lance-corporal, but in Inferno Elizabeth Shaw is one of the Brigade Leader's top officers.
