Sanctuary was the second story in The New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield audio anthology The Eternity Club 4, produced by Big Finish Productions and the eighth and final story in the saga The Eternity Club. It was written by Tim Foley and featured Lisa Bowerman as Bernice Summerfield.

Publisher's summary[[edit] | [edit source]]

The Eternity Club has fallen. How long can the survivors endure? The time has come for three members to reveal their true identities.

Plot[[edit] | [edit source]]

Before the Liturgy of Death can finish their countdown, Secretary Pym claims that he is the Master and saves those in the Eternity Club by claiming that he wants them to suffer in their defeat rather than die. He departs with them whilst the others are kept under guard. The Nurse sedates the distressed Oldest and theorises that the Oldest escaped the Liturgy after being pulled by them into this universe and that they have been biding their time to recapture her ever since. The Liturgy confirm this to Pym, informing him that the reconstruction of the Great Gate of Light was seen as the Master's signal to them and gave them the strength to find the Eternity Club. When the Nurse suggests that Benny thinks about all of the tasks that she has completed on the Eternity Club, Benny realises that it was her who sent her to the cloakroom and not the Oldest.

Releasing Geren's gas to kill the Liturgy guard fails, but Starll appears and defeats the guard and the group seal its bones inside the board game chest to keep it from reforming. The Nurse slips away with the Oldest as they do so and the group plan their defence of the club; 312 interfaces with the old construction hub underground to use the drillheads as missiles, Grizella and Altazar assemble explosives using Terran Alphan icing sugar and Starll turns the telescope into a weapon with a beam-focusing crystal and adapts a psychic cloak. Pym leads the Liturgy into the cloakroom and sets the living coats upon them when they realise that he is not really the Master, after which he joins Benny and the Liturgy bombard the club. Benny contacts the King of the Liturgy and demands that the Liturgy leave, but he refuses to do so without the Master, whom he is confident will survive their attack.

Answering the club's call, Derek arrives with the Endless Arboretum and the King of Liturgy prepares for war despite being outnumbered.
