This is a tutorial for writing articles about short stories.

Before writing an article you should consider what information is available, as you may not have enough information to write a valid article.

At the very least, a valid article should have a; character list and the correct infobox and information to fill out a majority of the fields of the infobox (see below). It should also have the correct layout for a short story as detailed below.

Please do not attempt to write an short story article if you are unable to provide these.

Please also, if you do not have the necessary information or time to complete any of the other headings or sub-headings listed below, please include them and add ''to be added'' below the sub-headings so that other editors may add to them when more information becomes available.

By the very nature of a wiki all the other information will eventually be completed. No one here is expected to go it alone.

  • First onto the article is the infobox; infobox for Short Stories containing a Doctor and infobx for Short Stories not containing a Doctor such as Bernice Summerfield and Companion only short stories. Follow the links for a copyable version of the infobox, the page also has an explanation of all the fields in the infobox.
  • The infobox contains basic information such as the series of which the short story is a part, Doctor, companions, setting, the publication in which it was published, and the previous and next stories in the series.

Summary

  • A short summary of the short story.

Characters

  • This is a list of all the primary characters.
  • You can also place information pertaining to characters that does not fit within the 'references' list. (Indent and bullet point by using :*)

References

References are anything that is referred to in the short story, these are generally links to other things in the Doctor Who universe, and are in-universe, links to other stories should go in Continuity)
  • This is a list of characters, organisations, planets, races and species and other items which are referred to in the short story.
  • The list should be divided into categories, and for better clarification short descriptions of what it is (or how it fits into the story).

Notes

  • This contains extra information about the short story, behind the scenes writing, other information about it etc.
  • Any other information which does not fall under other headings.

Continuity

Continuity refers to the links between stories and this short story's links to them
  • Tie-ins between this short stories and other stories be them other novels, TV stories or audios.
  • These should be listed (in the same manner to any other story) with the prefix of the story's group followed by the story's title in italics, it does not need to be in brackets.

External links

  • Here you should place outside links to any sites you used in researching the article, or to sites which may have more information.

Lastly add a category, most short story categories can be found by navigating through Category:Short fiction to find the appropriate category (please do not put stories in this category).
