Rumours are going around now that Torchwood series 4 is going to be set in America. Now, would that actually work, because the reason Torchwood 3 is based in Cardiff is because of the rift, isn't it? So what would be the point of going over to America. Plus, Torchwood is payed by the crown, is there to protect Britain from extra-terrestrial threat. But if they were going to America to film why would BBC Wales be building a whole new studio just for Torchwood, Doctor Who etc. Maybe theyr'e just making an american spin off (that should be fun :( ). So, as for Torchwood personnel who would you like to come back or join the crew? I think Captain John Hart would be brilliant as a new member, it's like having two Jack's (but with John obviously a bit out of control, like another Owen). Alonso Frame could be good, he could replace Ianto (although of course you can never replace Ianto Jones). How about Lois Habiba filling in Tosh's position. And then obviously you have Jack's return, what's he been doing in space. That leaves us then with Gwen and Rhys, who now have a family to support (their child/children), what if they called their child Jack!! So what do you think?[[User:Saxon 3|Saxon 3]] 17:44, January 23, 2010 (UTC) | Rumours are going around now that Torchwood series 4 is going to be set in America. That leaves us then with Gwen and Rhys, who now have a family to support (their child/children), what if they called their child Jack!! So what do you think?Saxon 3 17:44, January 23, 2010 (UTC)
Possible, Is this part of the US Torchwood announcement?
- P.S That studio the BBC Wales is building is for Drama division, not only DW and TW, and it will have offices in it. http://gallifreynewsbase.blogspot.com/2010/01/new-drama-village-in-cardiff.html. Geffe71 20:09, January 23, 2010 (UTC)
It kind of contradicts the series, too. In the near-future, Torchwood is supposed to have branches across the UK and become well-known, not be a secret group in America. Plus, it was said that they're there to protect the "British empire." Delton Menace
It also would contradict having the same episode for both Fox and BBC if there was a crossover (if the american one is picked up). i doubt the bbc would make a whole series in america, they did a decent job on the daleks in mannhattan/evolution of the daleks, but that was one episode/story. Just tought of this, What if Jack goes to the US to start a branch to do what UNIT can not. another think that just popped in was what was torchwood 3 doing in the Himalayas in :Sound of Drums", that means they dont just cover the UK. They left the UK because they were sent on a "wild goose chase" when looking for Jack, but they're set operating in Britiain unless something personal comes up. Delton Menace 15:02, January 24, 2010 (UTC)
Well since the Torchwood Institute was created by Queen Victoria to protection The British Empire from alien threat and other phantasmagoria, there couldn't be a branch in America - it defeats the point of Torchwood.81.98.0.33 22:27, February 24, 2010 (UTC)
First, as for the Himalayas: A good chunk of the Himalayas were actually part of the British Empire in Victoria's day, and England still has some odd post-colonial ties to Nepal (e.g., Singapore still hires Nepalese Gurkas as special guards from the British Crown, who then of course have to hire them from Nepal).
As for America... Well, is it impossible that Victoria would include "those upstart colonials" in the Imperial protection? One of the last things Albert told her in 1961 (during the American Civil War) was that they had to help protect America from itself and its disastrous involvement with France. Later in life, she had close friendships with a number of US Presidents--when she died, the US flew flags at half-mast, the only time on history that was ever done for a foreign head of state.
Of course England and America still have a "special relationship" to this day, as Blair was so fond of saying. And many political commentators love to point out that America has essentally inherited the mantle of Empire from the UK. If you want to protect Victoria's Empire, you're talking about, among other things, Egypt, Israel/Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. How would you do that without being involved with America?
Finally, there were plans to move the British government and royal family to the US if necesary during WW2, along with all of the governments and houses currently in exile in England. So, if aliens took control of England (as of course the Slitheen and The Master already did), a Torchwood US could beit if they really wanted to do it. --99.33.25.56 10:17, February 25, 2010 (UTC)
