Using a traffic-calming measure from the Aldebaran Astrobahn, an alien criminal raided the vaults of the Bank of England in 1885. The device acted like a perception filter, masking the robber's damage and disruption. When his attempt was thwarted by the Eleventh Doctor, the device was deactivated before being reactivated and pointed directly at the robber, convincing him to give up a life of crime, to go home and plant a garden of beautiful flowers.
