The Tenza were an alien species with similar behaviour patterns to a cuckoo bird. Shortly after birth, they drifted in space looking for the nearest habitable world and a family that wants a child (but can not naturally achieve one). After locating such a family, the Tenza infant would adapt itself to perfectly suit its environment and alter the surrogate parents' memory and the memories of those around them to believe the child was always part of the family.

Despite their abbility to mimic another perfectly they posessed certain odd "Ticks" that drew attention; espesially if they were distressed. Alex noted some of these to the Doctor, saying that George blinked to much when he was freightned or would stare of in to space and odd times.
 
However, should a Tenza be rejected by their surrogate parents, their telepathic abilities would start to play havoc with their environment. This was the case with George, a Tenza who had disguised himself as a human child of Alex and Claire, who believed his parents wanted to get rid of him because they were struggling to help him cope with his phobias. This caused his powers to bring his phobias to life in a doll house that was governed by the [[Peg Doll]]s, who would terrorise him and abduct anyone who terrified him. The Tenza posessed incredibly powerful psychic abilities but due to the nature of the race indaviduals are most likely not consiously aware of said powers. There abbilities worked more on a subconsious level and tended to increase in strength depending on the emotional state of the the Tenza. For exmple a terrified George was able to reach out to the Doctor from the other side of several Galaxyes.


The Tenza were able to create their own personal worlds in a small space and in George's case this world was made has a form of storage space for his various fears. One such fear manifested it self has living qsychic constructs that took the form of human sized Peg Dolls that fed on the child's fear's to grow in strength. While their very preseance terrified George they also seamed to protect him in their own way; they would abduct anyone who threatned/ scared George or his surrogate family. They were also temporay stopped when George entered their world but threatned him when they felt his fear of being taken from his parents. They were compleatly stopped when Alex ran to defend George from them proving to the child his fear of his parents was unfounded.

By 2003, however, a Tenza came to Earth and assimilated itself into Alex and Claire's "nest", and they named him George. He was "born" in either January (TV: Night Terrors) or on 11 February.
