So, I was rewatching the first season of New Doctor Who, and when I got up to Jack's introduction, I was reminded of a plot point that I had completely forgotten about. When Jack was explaining why he left the Time Agency, he claimed that he had woken up one day missing two years of his memory, and he wasn't sure if he was a good person or not because of this. Now, with all the Torchwood episodes that deal with some dark secret from Jack's past catching up with him, from both before and after he gained his immortality, how did this never come up again, or did I miss something? Is this going to be a plot point in a future episode of Doctor Who, or did the writers just forget about it?Icecreamdif talk to me 04:41, October 6, 2011 (UTC)

Well, it certainly looks like one. But the Doctor never found out why theose clockbots went after Madame de Pompadour and that was a plot point too.Boblipton talk to me 11:40, October 6, 2011 (UTC)

The difference between Jack and Reinette (apart from la différence) is that Jack's still around. I doubt that RTD has forgotten about the missing 2 years; it's more likely he's not come up with what he considers the right story to hang on that hook. Other writers would probably be a bit shy about using it while Jack's still so much RTD's main character in Torchwood. Also, Jack's life has been so long and eventful that it's not difficult for writers to invent secrets in his past to suit their stories, without touching that one. --2.96.28.11 12:13, October 6, 2011 (UTC)

The other main difference between Jack and Reinette is that the audience found out why the robots were after her even if the Doctor never did. I doubt RTD literally forgot about him-I really meant did he just decide that it didn't matter. Obviously, it is still possible to invent plenty of secrets for Jack, but the memory thing would be an interesting one to explore. I'm not sure what RTD's original plan for Jack was, but I doubt that he was planning to make him the star of a spin-off that early on. If Jack had stayed in Doctor Who rather than going to Torchwood, then maybe we would have found out about this years ago(though we wouldn't have had other great stories about him, like giving away 12 children or being killed repeatedly as the devil). It would also be a great plot to bring Captain John back, since Jack obviously knew John during their time travel days. Still, I'm not sure if they want to spend time answering old unanswered questions from Doctor Who on what is now a Starz show.Icecreamdif talk to me 15:03, October 6, 2011 (UTC)
