Voganite was a very rare mineral that the Vogans required to survive. They enslaved other races to mine it for them, as it caused all other minerals to quickly erode. The Third Doctor prevented them from enslaving the Crallicans for Voganite mining. (COMIC: The Vogan Slaves)
