Stegosaurus

The stegosaurus was a type of herbivorous dinosaur, which existed on Earth during the Jurassic period. (AUDIO: The Monstrous Menagerie) They were approximately 3.2 metres long and 4.1 metres high. (TV: The Lost Boy)

Biology[[edit] | [edit source]]

Stegosaurus was a heavily built dinosaur with a back protected by twin rows of kite-shaped bony plates. It had a small head, a humped back, and a tail with long spikes that it carried high in the air. Stegosaurus measured about 12 metres long and weighed roughly 5 metric tons.

Stegosaurus had a remarkably small brain for a dinosaur and relied on its impressive tail spikes rather than cunning to keep it alive. This so-called thagomizer comprised four sharpened spikes, more than enough to give would-be predators pause for thought. The creature is quite nimble for its size, capable of using its spiked tail to terrible effect. Stegosaurus was a grazer and usually fed on mosses and ferns common to the Jurassic period. Stegosaurus preferred the company of others of its kind, travelling in herds whenever possible. (PROSE: Prehistory Repeating Itself [+]Loading...["Prehistory Repeating Itself (feature)"])

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

Around 150,000,000 BC, time travellers from the 63rd century accidentally opened up a temporal link with 1894 London. A stegosaurus used the link to visit that year, and was encountered by Jago and Litefoot. (AUDIO: The Monstrous Menagerie)

In the 20th century, the Third Doctor encountered some during Operation Golden Age. (TV: Invasion of the Dinosaurs)

The last stegosaurus was exhibited in the Museum of the Last Ones. (PROSE: The Last Dodo)

Undated events[[edit] | [edit source]]

A zoo on an Earth-like planet exhibited a stegosaurus or a stegosaurus-like creature. (COMIC: The Didus Expedition)

Alternate universe[[edit] | [edit source]]

On an alternate Earth, stegosaurus was one of the creatures bought back from extinction by the Silurians and were allowed to roam free. (PROSE: Blood Heat)
