Matthew Sweet (born 2 December 1969 [1]) is principally a British broadcaster and television critic. He has contributed to newspapers like The Independent and various arms of the British Broadcasting Corporation. As he holds a doctorate in 19th century sensation fiction, his opinion on that genre, and related ones, became valued by various British media outlets in the 21st century. He is also the author of various non-televised DWU stories.

This combination of specific experience with Doctor Who and a broad background in on-air literary criticism attracted the attention of several producers in the 2010s.
