Smilodon was best known for its huge canine sabre-teeth, which reached up to 28 centimetres in length, and were used to stab their prey. Smilodon's bite was actually weaker than that of other big cats, but once it grabbed on with those huge teeth, it could put its whole upper body strength into shaking and tearing victims to pieces.
