Colonel Hugh Curbishley was a Boer War hero with a fondness for can-can girls, often hiding magazines of them in his military memoirs. He was married to Lady Clemency Eddison and had a son named Roger. He claimed to be paralysed from the waist down since the Spanish flu epidemic back in 1918, and used a wheelchair because he feared that Clemency would leave him for another man.
