The "Doctor Who Universe," often referred to as the "Whoniverse," is a term used by fans to describe the fictional reality in which the stories and events portrayed in the various Doctor Who media are set, to distinguish them from events in the real world. A related term, "Expanded Universe," borrowed from Star Wars fandom, describes persons, events, and stories depicted in the various spin-off materials, as their canonicity is a matter of debate, as well as personal taste and opinion.
