Major Beresford was the UNIT officer in charge while Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart was in Geneva. He was summoned by Sir Colin Thackeray to deal with the threat of the Krynoid which had been Arnold Keeler. On the Fourth Doctor's advice, he called in an aerial attack to bomb the Chase Mansion, destroying the Krynoid. (DW: The Seeds of Doom)
