Story notes
- This is the first story to feature Rose in the capacity of the Doctor's companion since Doomsday.
- Lucius Petrus Dextrus from The Fires of Pompeii says that "she is returning" when seeing the future. This is most likely a reference to Rose's return in this episode.
- Billie Piper was seen at the end of Partners in Crime, as well as a short cameo in The Poison Sky.
- Chipo Chung was last seen in the episode Utopia as the Malmooth, Chantho. She plays a human character in this story.
- This is the 'Doctor-lite' episode of the series, similar to Love and Monsters and Blink.
- A reference to something on Donna's back was last heard in The Fires of Pompeii when Lucius Petrus Dextrus saw into the future 'something on your back' is a back story arc as it has never been mentioned up to this episode.
- In DWM it is said that Donna will recieve a free tarot card reading and find out something bad is going to happen. When she is recieving it their will also be something behind her lurking in the curtains.

Rumours
- From pictures on YouTube, Donna, Rose , Martha, Captain Jack Harkness and Sarah Jane Smith are definitely in this episode. Possible returns from Mickey Smith, Jackie Tyler, Harriet Jones and K-9. The return of Mickey and Jackie has been confirmed via filming photos being posted on Youtube.
- Enemies likely to be in this episode include Davros and Dalek Caan. Davros was seen in the trailer but in darkness. Several daleks also appeared but whether Dalek Caan was there is unknown.
- Again, YouTube pictures show that Martha and Captain Jack are talking in a park (confirmed to be in Doctor Who not Torchwood) which could mean that Martha returned to Torchwood with Jack. This may show the cameo appearance of the Torchwood members Gwen and Ianto
- In Planet of the Ood when Ood Sigma said "your song will end soon" The Ood sang songs craving to be reunited with each other, and the Doctor's song of craving for Rose will end soon so he will be reunited with her once more.
- The Doctor falls into the Medusa Cascade. May be true, but evidence for it was contained in the Next Time trailer for Forest of the Dead
- In a trailer seen on BBC One, Donna's grandad looks up to the sky and sees the stars "going out" possibly something to do with the Void.
- The stars going out could be the planets dissapearing as the stars are sometimes referred to as planets
- The Daleks might begin their appearances in this episode and continue until Journey's End.
- Harriet Jones will begin in either this episode or the next, her rise to being Prime Minister launching her Global Cleaning process. However, the actual process leads to the world being covered in deadly fumes. Not confirmed in the trailer but if true, then fumes may be part of the series arc.
- Its been heavily rumoured that Harriet Jones has become evil because the Doctor brought down her government.
- It has been sighted that a red Dalek has appeared. It is either an upgrade to Dalek Caan or an upgrade to Harriet Jones.
- The Tardis is on fire. The reason for this is unknown but is confirmed in the Trailer.
- Part of this episode was filmed in China Town though not in the one in London. China Town was recreated in Cardiff instead. Chinese people living in South Wales were invited via Facebook to appear as extras in China Town during the end of 2007. David Tennant was seen filming in 'China Town' when he took time out to appeal to Blue Peter viewers to donate shoes to the Blue Peter Shoebiz appeal. This would tie in with Russell. T Davies saying that a Chinese flea market would appear in the series. As Chipo Chung is of Chinese decent, she may appear in China Town and join Rose and Donna. She is also likely to die as she will not be in episodes TBA and Journey's End.
- In DWM, it is hinted that the Racnoss will return. This is because Russell T Davies said he bring back the Racnoss Web Star for one last lap of honour. However as this episode is known to feature flashbacks to The Runaway Bride it may be they are appearing in that capacity. It has been heavily implied that a lone Racnoss could be what is on Donna's back
- UNIT return in this episode and take the TARDIS. Confirmed by a picture in DWM 396.
- we see donna before the runaway bride.

"China Town"
Discontinuity, Plot Holes, Errors

Continuity
- In The Sontaran Strategem the Sat Nav kept saying Turn Left. The Doctor is also heard saying Turn Right not Left. This could have something to do with this episode.
- Rose says in the mid series trailer that the darkness is coming, the Toclafane say "Its coming ... the never ending darkness". (DW: The Sound of Drums) This was most likely a reference to heat-death of the universe, a main topic of Utopia (TV story).
- In Boom Town, the Ninth Doctor, Rose, Captain Jack and Mikey are in a restaurant discussing previous adventures and mentioning something about "turning left".
DVD and Other releases
- This is due to be released in the Series 4 boxset in November 2008 along with the rest of the Series.
