Julius Schäfer was a the a high-ranking officer at Colditz castle. He sympathised with the prisoners and brought in equipment so that they could escape. One prisoner, Bill Gower, was a special favourite of his/ Schafer got many items for his escape programmes. (BFA:Colditz)
