Hieronymous was the leader of the Pharisees in Byzantium at around the time of Jesus Christ. He was deeply hostile to Christianity, to the extent that he had once ordered the stoning of a girl named Ruth who had dared to publicly announce her faith within his jurisdiction. (PDA: Byzantium!)
