The Wire came to Earth in 1953 to escape the death penalty. It was an energy being that concealed itself within television signals and fed off the mental signals from human brains. While the residents of the United Kingdom witnessed the coronation of their new queen, the Wire sought to take control of Earth, and was only stopped by the Tenth Doctor armed with a Betamax recorder.
