The sonic lipstick was a device employed by Sarah Jane Smith sometime after she stopped regularly traveling with the Doctor. It presumably had qualities similar to the Doctor's sonic screwdriver. Its shape allowed it to easily pass for an object a Human woman would naturally carry. Like the Doctor's sonic screwdriver, The Sonic Lipstick could not open anything with a deadlock sealand unlike the Doctors it emitted a red light instead of a blue one. The device was weaker than the Doctors and was described by the Slitheen as a sonic disruptor. Sarah Jane used it to send an electrical charge through Mark Granthams earpeice, sabotage a motorbike, cut cables and claimed she could destroy the Gorgons portal key with sonic disruptions from the lipstick.

During the events of the war in the medusa cascade, Sarah Jane again used the lipstick in order to get through a door to escape the testing of the reality bomb.
