A bow tie was a type men's necktie in the shape of a bow. They could be either pre-tied or self-tied. The Eleventh Doctor would often insist that "bow ties are cool" in spite of disagreement on the part of his companions. (TV: The Eleventh Hour, Vincent and the Doctor, The Lodger, A Christmas Carol, et al.) After Amy Pond and Rory Williams left, the Eleventh Doctor stopped wearing bow ties, but started wearing them again when he met his next companion, Clara Oswald. (TV: The Snowmen)
