Spoiler policy

Hi! I suggest you take the time to read Tardis:Spoiler policy. As you'll see, cast and crew announcements do count as spoilers. Thanks! Shambala108 21:24, September 12, 2012 (UTC)

Oh! Sorry, I probably should have read that first.

Red Links

Please do not remove red links from pages, they will be filled in eventually, and helps the wiki grow. Thanks. --Revan\Talk 15:28, September 14, 2012 (UTC)

broken links

Hi again! You've been doing some great cleanup edits here - that's how I started and it's a great way to learn your way around the wiki. But you've removed some "broken" links, and as explained in Tardis:Redlinks, those links are actually future pages to be created. Some links can be removed, for example a few months ago a bunch of pictures were wiped from the wiki because they don't meet image standards, so there are a lot of broken links to images. But characters in novels, comics, etc are wiki-fied (if that's a word) so that the pages can be created in the future. Take a look at the link I provided and it will help. Thanks and keep up the great work! Shambala108 15:30, September 14, 2012 (UTC)

Oh...Now that makes sense. It means that if someone makes one of those pages, it will be auto linked. Thanks!

Categories and other edits

Hi. Please look around at our category structure and pages before adding pages. The categories on Tiger have been removed for several reasons. Firstly all our categories which don't have proper nouns in them are lower case (aside from the first word after [[Category:). So it should be Category:Earth mammals not Category:Earth Mammals.

Also to note, if this were another article that were not involved in the Game of Rassilon the Earth Mammals category would not even need to be present on the article.

This is because the Category:Tigers category is a sub-category of Category:Earth mammals and therefore is already in that category and does not need to be added to page.

To frame this with an article whose category is not part of the Game of Rassilon take a look at Psyche Dalek Three it is in the Category:Individual Daleks, that category is a sub-category of the Category:Individuals by species category, which itself is a sub-category of Category:Individuals, which means all the articles in those sub-categories are in the Category:Individuals category. The only articles in the Category:Individuals category are those that have failed to be categorised into sub-categories. Thanks, feel free to ask any further questions. --Tangerineduel / talk 02:12, September 15, 2012 (UTC)

Prefixes

Prefixes have undergone a major change across the wiki; these 'mistakes' are not a wiki-wide pandemic. Please read Forum:Prefix simplification which will brief you on the change as well as showing the proposal that lead to it.--Skittles the hog - talk 18:50, September 17, 2012 (UTC)

Is there any chance of returning the TW, DW, SJA, KAC, and K9TV prefixes? I find it really hard to figure out whether a specific story is TW or SJA especially, since DW, SJA, and TW all have really similar names. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cult Of Skaro (talk • contribs) .

Unfortunately, no. I also preferred the old method, but hey, you work with what you've got. On another note, it's usually better if you reply to a talk page message on the sender's own talk page, that way they're notified when the recipient has replied. It's just better. Thanks for your understanding--Skittles the hog - talk 19:34, September 17, 2012 (UTC)

Earth mammals

Susan is an individual. The Earth mammals category is for species, not individuals. Susan is not a species, therefore the page doesn't belong in that category. Also, the names of badges are usually just named to be clever in-jokes to give them some personality. You shouldn't take them that literally. Memnarc 07:46, September 21, 2012 (UTC)

Regarding Rose (Rise of the Cybermen), I removed the Earth Mammals category from the page and you undid my edit, adding it back. Memnarc 21:01, November 7, 2012 (UTC)

That was a while ago. My recent undo was not of an edit of yours, but of an anon who said Rose (Rise of the Cybermen) was a time traveler. Cult Of Skaro 22:03, November 7, 2012 (UTC)

Action figures

Thanks so much for your recent work improving our coverage of action figures. If you see me occasionally delete pictures, it's because they might violate local policies like T:ICC or T:GTInot because your work is being dismissed.

K9

Yes and yes. Both pages already have the category on the page. K9 appeared in the episode, so it is a 'K9 television episode'. There was no reason to remove it, unless you forgot about K9, albeit, brief appearance. Also, please rememeber to sign you post with the four tildes (~~~~). Many thanks. Game of Rassilon

Just saw your message in chat. Sorry I wasn't there to read it while you were still around. Yes, funky things are afoot with the Game of Rassilon. Please see Forum:Game of Rassilon errors. Since the code for the game is not accessible at the local level, we just have to wait for Wikia to fix it. I haven't seen exactly the error you're describing — i can certainly see how many people have earned a specific badge, and I can look at all my badges — but the Engineering department is working on the errors in the badge display area of user pages. It's possible you saw them apply a temporary fix that then got reverted.

Series 7 writers

I removed it because you over wikified. Per section, you should only link to an article once. The edit you did added more than one link to Steven Moffat, Nick Hurran etc, which was not needed. MM/Want to talk? 19:52, September 26, 2012 (UTC)

Image licensing

Heya :) Thanks again for all your work with the action figures. However, please remember that you must include the image license of merchandise with every upload of a toy or other merchandise.

Of the 50 or so images currently without licenses, your name is attached to about 48 of them. So please remember to take that extra little step of identifying the copyright situation of the image, or you may find your images get summarily deleted.

Don't worry about the current images without licenses. I'll add the template for this lot only. After this, the bot will simply delete pictures that are unlicensed. Thanks :)

Blogs

Blogs are not offered by this wiki.
czechout<staff />    17:39: Fri 28 Sep 2012

Some parts of what we call locally the "Game of Rassilon" – but which is known throughout Wikia as "Achievements" — are standard to every Wikia wiki. That is, there are some badges over which we, locally, have very little control. One of these "default" badges is the one pertaining to blog posts. If we could hide it, we would hide it. The best we can probably do is just change the text on it so it's clearer that it's unwinnable.

Stubs

Please do not add stubs to a page by adding please use a template. Look in Category:Stub templates for a list. To place a stub from that list on a page ignore the "template" portion of the name and type real world stub for example. Make sure to select the appropriate stub tag for the page. Only use stub when you can't find a more specific stub tag to use. Using a template adds a graphic to the side of the article alerting people to the fact that the page is a stub. Thanks. --Tangerineduel / talk 02:24, October 27, 2012 (UTC)

Your relatively recent (in the last month) edit to David Roden on the 8th October history link here your added a stub, as I indicated above by adding the category rather than using the template system. --Tangerineduel / talk 14:22, October 28, 2012 (UTC)

Dapol

Galleries are basically avoided here. They take up too much space and make an article look bad. It's better to just not include the photos or to space them out over the page. The bigger the gallery is, the more the hastle. Look, the gallery at Dapol is perfect, all the pictures that should be there are there, it's done. So please just leave the gallery alone and go find another page to contribute to. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 00:19, November 17, 2012 (UTC)

Nah, that would be even worse. The thumbnail size would be way too small. Plus packaging doesen't really matter that much here. Look at the images at Character Options pages, like Character_Options_series_1_action_figures and note the lack of packaging images. The packaging for the action figures of the series were rather boring and uniteresting, the same for each one. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 00:29, November 17, 2012 (UTC)
I just wanted to throw in that galleries can work, or rather using the gallery function can work.
As OS25 has said straight out galleries are avoided as it's kinda like throwing a bunch of images on a wall. It doesn't really provide any information.
But looking at the Dapol article, you could have a subheading of say Marx Daleks and have all of those presented in a gallery and use the gallery to highlight the differences in them.
Or you could have a subheading on Daleks, and have a gallery showing all the Daleks that Dapol used, and how they generally used the same mold for all of them, and when they started out they were normal Dalek-y colours and then near the end for some reason they were making glitter coloured Daleks. With the gallery being able to show a progression of Dapol's "style". --Tangerineduel / talk 09:21, November 17, 2012 (UTC)

Removal of Dab terms on Series 6 article

Was there a reason that you removed all the dab terms - the (TV story) from all the story titles on the Series 6 (Doctor Who) article? See diff history here. I've readded most of the dabbed story titles from the edit prior to yours. --Tangerineduel / talk 05:42, November 30, 2012 (UTC)

I'm not quite sure. Some person decided that our synopsis of the series was "too spoiler filled" so they deleted it. I tried to readd it, but must have deleted something in the process. Cult Of Skaro 14:47, November 30, 2012 (UTC)

Images

I just want to remind you of a few things to do with the image policy. These ll relate to the file you recently uploaded, which has now been deleted, Houndini.jpg.

1) When you upload any image you must select the correct copyright tag. The list of licences is selected via the drop down menu. Unlicensed images will be deleted.

2) You must place you images within a category. All screenshots, comic images, essentially all 'story images' will have their own category for you to add your image to. (i.e Rose TV story images or The Creative Spark comic story images.) There are also certain character categories for image, although not all image will fall into one of these.

3) All images must be greater than >250px.

Please bear these in mind when uploading images in the future. Also, I would adivse you read the image policy. Thanks. MM/Want to talk? 22:27, December 19, 2012 (UTC)

Categories of episode length

So what's your plan with the categories in category:articles by serial length? It's not enough to make a category. It matters what you're going to do with them. Off the top of my head, it would seem to me that this is information better captured by SMW from the infobox. So why do you think it should be done by category? Please answer before you spend any more time adding these categories to pages.
czechout<staff />    05:19: Sat 12 Jan 2013

I asked how you were going to use the categories, not why you thought SMW insufficient. Why is it useful to identify stories by number of episodes using categories? I can see why the infoboxes need to have that variable added, but I can't see why a category would be of more help than altering the infobox.
czechout<staff />    06:24: Sat 12 Jan 2013
Okay, fair enough, but that information is already available in handy tabular form at List of Doctor Who television stories. What do the categories give you that the tables don't?
czechout<staff />    06:37: Sat 12 Jan 2013
All of the serials have {epcount} added, so it's now possible to type something like:

and get:

How are you uploading your images?

You're the only person on the wiki who is somehow including the "you must choose a license" message in your uploads, as can be seen at file:IceWarriorDapol.jpg. Could you please explain exactly how you upload your images so that I can try to track down a potential bug? Thanks.
czechout<staff />    19:01: Wed 23 Jan 2013

Thanks for replying. Until further notice, please do not use that method. It's clearly buggy. Use only Special:Upload or Special:MultipleUpload. You can create easy links to both of these using your MyTools bar at the bottom of the page.

Signature

Please consider dropping the caps in your signature. I kinda get that you're emulating Dalek speak there, but others might not pick up on that. It looks a little unfriendly to have a wall of all caps like that.

Image filesize

Please note that there is only very rarely a cause to upload a file that is bigger than 100kb (that's kilobytes) in size. You've uploaded a few CD covers recently that have been over that, if only just. Be aware that admin have automatic processes at our disposal that allow us to simply delete all new photos that are over the 100kb limit. Before you get too far away from these pics that you've recently uploaded, it would probably be wise for you to upload versions that are under 100kb. It's easiest for you to do this, since you have these files to hand on your computer, and it's a one click process to compress pics.

Why does this matter? Well, the main reason is that we want to try to make our site as friendly to as many users as we can. If you're on a crappy wireless connection, or you live in a country where "broadband" doesn't mean what it does on, say, an American university campus, then it does actually make a difference what size our pics are. The base Wikia code is bloated enough without ading pics that unnecessarily large.

If you don't care about the speed of page delivery, though, consider this: the rule is splattered everywhereSpecial:Upload, T:GTI, T:ICC, T:IUP ...
czechout<staff />    02:20: Sun 27 Jan 2013

Surely you have a list of your uploaded images. Don't you know by looking on your computer what you've uploaded? If you've not organised your images well on your computer, though, you can always click on the "contributions" button at the top of this page.

Cover images

Ahhh. Not had time to stop by T:ICC yet, then? I urge you to please read the page. This is the third time I've linked to it on your page. Our image rules are laid out there in a nice, bite-sized way.

OttselSpy25 is essentially correct. Our policy is that if there's any narrative depiction of a character, it's superior to a cover image. The classic case of why this is so is Erimem. See Talk:Erimem for an object lesson in why it's wrong to believe that characters look like the actors who portray them.

(For what it's worth, I don't think of Maggie Stables] when I hear Evelyn Smythe. And I especially don't think that Charley looks like India Fisher or Lucie Miller looks like Sheridan Smith. And I'm sure that Jemima Rooper looks nothing like Izzy Sinclair. If I'd had my way about it, I would have banned cover images altogether. Alas, I was overruled. But the compromise was that you can't use covers if there's any other narrative choice.)

Croatan

Do you have any other proof aside from a Big Finish synopsis? Because a synopsis is not a valid source. The actors are all pronouncing it "Croatan".
czechout<staff />    16:11: Tue 12 Feb 2013

Jeez, Big Finish really spent 5 minutes on Wikipedia for this one, didn't they? Most Americans don't pronounce the second o. How could they? There's not been a second o in the word for centuries. Why don't we just spell Roanake Roanak then? That's a kinda serious question. It really is not that "Croatan" is the tribe and "Croatoan" is the island. It's just that "Croatoan" is ye olde spelling". You use it only when you're speaking about the 1500s, really. Still, if you're looking for a rhyme for "protozoan", I guess it's useful to know 16th century English words ...
I have to admit, though, that they are indeed (mis-)pronouncing the O in the play, so I can see your argument for the application of T:NO RW. I tend to discount it just because Jago could be realistically flubbing the pronunciation, because a 19th century Englishman would see "Croat" and pronounce it like the demonym for "people from Croatia".
I suppose I'll return the article to its amazingly stupid spelling. For the record, though, this is the pronunciation that the University of North Carolina says is currently correct. And I mean, it's their state, so surely they "win" over Wikipedia. It feels like we're doing the moral equivalent of calling the article on London, Londinium — but since this is the only reference to Croatan in the DWU, this is a case of not having clear DWU evidence for the bleedingly obvious.

TARDIS image

Honest mistake, it's fine. :) OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 22:23, February 22, 2013 (UTC)

Imm afraid that I've still reverted it. The Hartnell era image is a lot more interesting and telling than the TV movie pic, even though I LOVE the TV film. I think the Hartnell era image is probably the best we could do, unless you could find a better image from the Hartnell era. (Again, the pic being B&W is not an issue) :) OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 23:18, February 22, 2013 (UTC)
The Hartnell era image is, well, classic. (It's well cropped as well) There's nothing more represntative of our wikia than the fact that one of the propable most-linked-pages has a classic series Hartnell era pic. Changing it to anything else it kinda pointless. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 23:25, February 22, 2013 (UTC)

The Doctor links

Hi, when wikilinking things like the synopsis you just edited for A Town Called Mercy please remember to link the correct incarnation of the Doctor. So instead of linking the Doctor use the Eleventh Doctor or if you think this alters the flow of the sentence pipe-switch it so it's the Doctor. You should only link to the Doctor article when you're linking the general concept of the Doctor or an unknown incarnation that we don't currently have a page for. --Tangerineduel / talk 15:49, February 26, 2013 (UTC)
