Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy was a count and envoy in the Russian Army during the Crimean War (1853-1856). He later became a famous author.

In November 1854, he was put in charge of Ace, whom he believed to be a British spy. He fell in love with her and was annoyed when she was transferred to another prison.
