The Strigidae were a race of intelligent owl-like birds that were hunted to the point of near extinction. They survived, led by their leader Lord Strige, on the planet Hydrocallica, a barren world, that they protected and shielded by a water molecule shield that covered the surface and gave the impression of a water world (whose surface you could bounce across without getting wet). Over time the shield began to break down and water leaked through to the Strigidae world beneath. The Eleventh Doctor was able to repair it with his sonic screwdriver and ensure the Strigidae remained safe for a few more centuries at least. (COMIC: The Water World)
