We've got a couple of important quirks for a Wikia wiki, so let's get them out of the way first.
British English, please
We generally use British English round these parts, so if you're American, please be sure you set your spell checker to BrEng, and take a gander at our spelling cheat card.
Spoilers aren't cool
We have a strict definition of "spoiler" that you may find a bit unusual. Basically, a spoiler, to us, is anything that comes from a story which has not been released yet. So, even if you've got some info from a BBC press release or official trailer, it basically can't be referenced here. In other words, you gotta wait until the episode has finished its premiere broadcast to start editing about its contents. Please check the spoiler policy for more details.
Other useful stuff
Aside from those two things, we also have some pages that you should probably read when you get a chance, like:

• the listing of all our help, policy and guideline pages
• our Manual of Style
• our image use policy
• our user page policy
• a list of people whose job it is to help you

If you're brand new to wiki editing — and we all were, once! —  you probably want to check out these tutorials at Wikipedia, the world's largest wiki:

Remember that you should always sign your comments on talk and vote pages using four tildes like this:

Chat malfunction

Sorry to have missed you in chat. The thing affecting chat was no big deal in the end, but something consequent to the fixing of our unique problems with Darwin on this wiki.

A little background first. For reasons not yet adequately explained by the engineering team in Poland, some pages on the wiki simply won't go fluid. Their maximum width was that of fixed mode. They'll collapse okay to tablet width, but they don't fully expand. Examples include Special:SpecialPages, Special:CSS (when enabled), Category:Inorganic substances, Category:Users, User:JWSchmidt. It's not just one namespace, or a page using a certain bit of local code, or anything that has an obvious pattern. Oddly, too, some pages are at different levels of "fixedness". Open a wide window at Category:Users then overlay it on a window of the same size opened to Category:Users by language. The page width is off by about 50px. And it's honestly not a local javascript issue, because they only thing the engineering team thought it might be has been turned off for a day now, they've hard cleared the cache from their end, and we're still having the issue. Still, there's no local js at all now and this issue still persists.

It's a very irregular problem.

As such, I've been thinking outside the box and added this to the CSS:

.WikiaPageContentWrapper {
    position:relative
}

That actually did help some pages. But not all of them. And, it turned out to be the thing that had "broken" chat. If you do that to chat, then all the elements, as you'll probably know, get thrown out of whack. While that CSS code was enabled, there was no visible list of current users, no advancing column of chat, no ability see anything you'd typed in — nothing that could be clicked on save the wordmark. It was completely unusable.
