On 12 January, the following important behind-the-scenes events were known to have occurred:
- 1984 - Peter Davison had his last day of shooting in the role of the Fifth Doctor. Reportedly, Patrick Troughton (who had played the Second Doctor) had recommended to him that he leave the role after three years, and Davison followed his advice. He left the role nearly exactly three years after his first day of shooting in 1981.
- 2008 - Steven Moffat informed Russell T Davies that he had begun writing the first episode of series 5.
