Was a reason ever given as to why, when the doctor built K9 mark III, he gave it to sarah jane? Rather than keep it himself or any other companions because sarah was before k9's time and hadn't met him, onscreen at least. Also, when did he build it? Because he seemed to have the mark II ready for when mark I left with leela, but no indication was given for this model? I will also take production reasons like they wanted to write him out because I think that did happen. --90.199.70.162talk to me 23:36, May 10, 2014 (UTC)

K9 Mark III first appeared in A Girl's Best Friend, the pilot episode for the proposed K9 and Company spinoff series. Since the series wasn't taken up, there was no chance for it to give an account of the Mark III's construction, nor of the reasons why the Doctor left him for her in 1978 (though it was late 1981 before Sarah Jane opened the crate).

K9 Mark II was written out at the same time as Romana. They stayed in E-Space together.

From DVD extras & the like, I gather that control of the K9 model was troublesome on set, because of interference between his electronics & that of cameras etc. However, I'm no expert on this & someone else might have better information. --89.243.194.42talk to me 22:53, May 11, 2014 (UTC)
