Gustavo Riviera was an old friend of the Seventh Doctor, due to the Doctor saving him during the Spanish Civil War. He owned a bar in Ibiza, and gave Jude and Gabriel to set up the Rapture as he believed that Gabriel and Jude would give the directionless youths of Ibiza a purpose lacking in their lives.
