Hilda Winters was a member and leader of the Scientific Reform Society, a group secretly planning to take over Earth. Twenty years later, she made numerous attempts to destroy Sarah Jane Smith, and eventually, the city of London.
Winters invited Sarah Jane Smith to see the Experimental Prototype Robot K1. She demonstrated its inability to kill by asking it to terminate Sarah's life. The robot became confused, claiming that such an order conflicted with its prime directive. Winters was later seen at the Scientific Reform Society meeting, bringing Professor Kettlewell outside, along with the robot. She retreated with the SRS to their bunker, from which they attempted to override the nuclear missile codes of all nations to create a nuclear holocaust. Her plans were thwarted by the Fourth Doctor's interference. (TV: Robot)
After serving fifteen years in prison for her crimes, Winters was determined to exact revenge on Sarah Jane by framing her for a terrorist attack on the London Underground and the murder of Claudia Coster, although she hired henchmen to carry out her work so that Sarah Jane wouldn't detect her presence. (AUDIO: Test of Nerve)
After this, Winters hired Abbotly to murder Candy McElroy, the wife of an American delegate at a peace conference. She also contracted him to deal with Sarah Jane, who was investigating the murder. But once again, she went un-detected by Sarah Jane and her plan was foiled. (AUDIO: Ghost Town).
Hilda, along with a gang of associates, planned to finally entrap Sarah Jane and her friends. During this time, Hilda and Sarah Jane encountered each other for the first time since 1974, and Hilda's plan was once again foiled. (AUDIO: Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre)
Months later, Sarah Jane discovers Hilda had died and felt a slight remorse for her, even though she considered her one of her greatest enemies. She discovers Hilda wrote her a letter, warning her about the Orphans of the Future and that the Book of Tomorrows was opening. (AUDIO: Buried Secrets)
