Reg Atkinson was the twin brother of Norman Atkinson and the father of Tim Atkinson.
Reg was originally able to resist the programme Surrender, Earthlings! to the point that he founded a group of people, the Provisional Wing of the National Viewers and Listeners Association, protesting the "corruption" of the programme. He "kidnapped" Nyssa when the group noticed that she was resistant to the programme. The group met to consider plans, and it was decided they would blow up the BBC. However, on arriving at the studio, the group began watching the programme in the security kiosk, leaving Nyssa to solve the problem on her own. (PROSE: Not So Much a Programme, More a Way of Life)
