Helen Atkins was a human woman.
In 1982 she was hiding inside British nuclear bunker because she thought they had a nuclear war. She worked as a cook in the bunker. However more and more people were killed by giant cockroaches. The Eleventh Doctor found out that the cockroaches were manipulating the human minds and making them think that there was a nuclear war outside.
