eBay was an online auction and shopping website. It was used by some people to sell alien items and artefacts.
In 2008, Angela Wisher suggested that the Fifth Doctor could find a Cuddlesome on eBay. (AUDIO: Cuddlesome)
Toshiko Sato found and purchased a Bekaran deep-tissue scanner while shopping for shoes on eBay. (PROSE: Another Life)
Eugene Jones discovered a Dogon sixth eye and, convinced it was a genuine alien artefact, hoped to sell it on eBay. The auction closed at £15,005.50, which thrilled Eugene until he learned that his friends Josh and Gary had made the high bids to boost the price and accidentally made the final bid. (TV: Random Shoes)
Sarah Jane Smith found Travist Polong being sold on eBay, as the man who was selling it did not know what it was. She bought it to stop it getting in the wrong hands. (TV: The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith)
Behind the scenes
- While the website shown on-screen in Random Shoes was identified in dialogue as eBay, it did not match eBay's real-world appearance.
- After search-wise.net, eBay is the second website portrayed in televised Doctor Who Universe media which actually exists on the Internet, and was not put online as a marketing tie-in by the British Broadcasting Corporation. It is the first real-world website portrayed performing the function it does in reality.
- According to the pseudo-narrative — and therefore invalid as a source — Torchwood website, Dogon sixth eyes began appearing on eBay after the Battle of Canary Wharf, and became very popular in Belgium.
