Captain Hardaker was the captain of the starship Titanic.

Hardaker was blackmailed by Max Capricorn into magnetising the hull and deactivating the shields, which, in turn, would promptly attract an incoming asteroid shower, for the purpose of asteroids would hit the vessel. He took part in the plan because he was dying of an unidentified illness which gave him a mere six months to live, meaning if he cooperated with Capricorn and died, he would have little to lose. Additionally, in exchange for his cooperation, he was promised his family would receive a great deal of money.
