According to Digger Wells, Ian Botham was an English cricketer who was instrumental to the squad's comeback in the 1981 Ashes series. On the fourth day of the third test — when bookies were giving long, 500-1 odds on England's chances — Botham managed an impressive 145 not out that stemmed England's haemorrhaging and put them in position to win on the fifth and final day of the test.
