* This anthology was produced as a tribute to writer Craig Hinton, who died in 2006, two years prior to publication. All proceeds raised from the book were donated to the British Heart Foundation; Hinton himself had died of a heart attack.
Adrian Middleton planned to release further volumes of ''Shelf Life'' in 2009 and 2010 without the help of Jay Eales and David McIntee.<ref name="DSO" /> However, these were never released.
* The anthology includes a number of unpublished stories and notes by Hinton, alongside stories by other ''Doctor Who ''writers and fans, expanding on Hinton's concepts and ideas.
