The Sydiasts were the natives of Farlorne. As a race, they achieved genetic purity, but a genetic mutation caused part of the species to change into a war-loving species. The peace-loving species and they fought a long war. Finally, the peace-loving species decided genocide was the answer and used a virus to wipe out both species. The only survivors were those who were off-planet at the time.
Years later, the last two surviving Sydiasts, Stefnie Vollier and Captain Helsall, confronted each other during Bernice Summerfield's expedition to Farlorne. Helsall killed Vollier, saving Benny's life in the process. (PROSE: Squadborronfell)
