C. P. Snow was a man of letters whose lectures on the Twin Cultures were world-famous on Earth. Melanie Bush, from the 20th century, was supposed to recognise a reference about him. (PROSE: Time and the Rani) According to the Seventh Doctor he expounded on thermodynamics. (TV: Time and the Rani)
