Professor Malcolm Taylor was one of the UNIT's scientific advisors. He was a Welsh man and had read all files on the Doctor as he was a former member of UNIT. He aided in the help of sealing the wormhole but refused to close the hole until the Doctor was out, even when he was held at gunpoint by Captain Erisa Magambo. When the Doctor came back through, Malcolm successfully had closed the wormhole and Magambo put down her gun. After the events he met the Doctor for the first time in person and he was exstatic to meet him. During this time, Malcolm's state of dress was similar to that of the Fourth Doctor, though this was probably an unintentional occurrence on his part.

Malcolm made up his own measurements called Malcolms and Bernards, Bernard being from Bernard Quatermass. The Doctor also claimed him as his best friend, which he gladly accepted and reciprocated. (DW: Planet of the Dead)
