Wailers were a spacefaring species.

Elder Bones kidnapped a baby Wailer and brought it to Tantane Spaceport to eat his enemies. Unfortunately, it was found by Customs and escaped. The spaceport was put on lockdown, which lasted four hundred years. During this time, others of its race began bombarding the spaceport in an attempt to retrieve their child. They were finally able to do so after the arrival of the Sixth Doctor led to the spaceport's forcefield being lowered. (AUDIO: Spaceport Fear)
