Stapleton Petherbridge was a human born in Pease Pottage in 1758. After serving as the town tollkeeper up until 1809, he was impressed into the Royal Navy in 1810 and was killed during the War of 1812. However, prior to his joining the navy he was possessed by a time demon who created a pocket of cauterised time around Pease Pottage in 1987. Using Mel Bush's incredible ability for "total recall" to manipulate time as well as two versions of the TARDIS, it planned to enter the real universe.
