A Frenchman, codenamed Bondot, was a assassin hired by Marshal Tavannes and the Abbot of Amboise to assassinate Admiral Gaspard de Coligny. When the Admiral was returning from a council meeting, Bondot attempted to shoot Coligny, but Coligny moved, and he only wounded him. After Bondot failed, he rode away.
