While the synthesis of food protein from those Tranquil Repose clients Davros considers unworthy of becoming Daleks is highly reminiscent of "Soylent Green," this story overall seems most influenced by the Evelyn Waugh novel, "The Loved One," and its 1960s film adaptation, both of which satirized the funeral business.
